Hello and welcome to my website.
Do you ever feel excited thinking things are working out, only to fall flat the same old way, wondering how this happened yet again?…Wrong choice once again…same old patterns …same old quarrels…same old feelings.
Are you experiencing difficulties such as:
- Unhelpful ways of being, thinking, feeling or relating
- Feeling overwhelmed or constrained by past events
- Preoccupied by fears about the future
- Life changes
- Identity issues
- Relationship problems
- Bereavement or Loss
- Anxiety or depression
- Low self esteem
- Feeling unfulfilled
- Stress at home or at work
- Unexplained physical symptoms
- Coming to terms with illness or ageing
- A general sense of something being wrong
How Can I Help?
I am an experienced, qualified psychotherapist and counsellor, practising in Edinburgh since 2004.
I offer a respectful, confidential space to explore what is troubling you, help you make sense of your experiences, move on from difficult past events, change unhelpful patterns and live a fulfilling life, whatever that means to you. I bring to my work warmth, sensitivity, humour and a genuine interest in people’s stories.
I work in two locations close to Edinburgh City Centre, easily accessed by public transport.
Counselling and Psychotherapy
You may have tried to solve your problems on your own, or by talking them through with friends or family. Often people find it helpful to explore their concerns in Counselling or Psychotherapy with a trained, experienced therapist who is not otherwise involved in their life.
Counselling and psychotherapy are confidential, non-judgemental processes. Counselling is generally shorter term, perhaps 6-20 sessions, dealing with specific issues or events that cause you difficulty in the here-and-now. Psychotherapy is generally longer term, from 6 months to a number of years, helping you to understand yourself and your patterns of behaviour, to make changes and to find new ways of accepting what cannot be changed.
My core training is in Transactional Analysis (TA), a theory of personality and relationships, widely used in counselling and psychotherapy, and also in education and organisations. I may introduce TA concepts and tools to our work if I think this would be helpful, however, as research demonstrates, developing a helpful therapeutic relationship is the single most important factor in determining the success of the work.
Please contact me to arrange an initial meeting for us to explore whether my approach will suit you.
